A good candle should last 20-40 hours, but poor burning habits cut that short. Here is how to get the most from your scented candles.
Trim the Wick
Before each burn, trim the wick to 1/4 inch. Long wicks cause soot, smoke, and uneven burning. Use scissors or a wick trimmer.
The First Burn Matters Most
On the first burn, let the candle burn until the entire surface is liquid. This prevents tunneling — when the candle burns down the middle and wastes wax. For an 8 oz candle, this takes about 2 hours.
Avoid Drafts
Air currents cause the flame to flicker, which produces soot and uneven burning. Keep candles away from fans, vents, and open windows.
Don't Burn Too Long
Limit burns to 4 hours maximum. Longer burns overheat the wax and reduce the candle's total life. Let the candle cool completely before relighting.
Store Properly
Keep candles away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Store with lids on to preserve the fragrance. Soy wax candles like our gardenia scented candle should be stored in a cool, dry place.
